Realistic vacuum tube sound and behavior

HoRNet Valvola (the Italian word for vacuum tube) is an emulation of the electric behavior of a vacuum tube and its surrounding circuit.

Vacuum tube emulation in all its nuances

The plugin’s sound is as close as possible to real tube behavior. This is because the code directly models the circuit characteristics, obtained by simulating the tube and the biasing circuit around it. You can find the same technology inside our Guitar Kit and Analog Stage plugins. We decided to give it away for free because we are proud of it.

Valvola includes many different vacuum tube emulations, such as triodes and pentodes. These range from the classic 12AX7 used in preamplifiers to the EL84 power tube. By using more than one instance of Valvola, you could even create your own small tube amplifier emulation.

The typical tube distortion that Valvola provides is dynamic, not static. It changes with your music because tubes have a kind of “memory effect.” This effect alters their bias point if they process high levels, such as those from heavy bass drums, bass synths, or guitars. In practice, tubes distort more with low-frequency peaks. Additionally, vacuum tubes are not linear in frequency response. Each one has its own characteristic sound, which we carefully modeled using the original tube parameters.

All these interactions are controlled using just one “saturation” knob. This knob also keeps the level constant, allowing you to add distortion without adding gain. The intelligent oversampling, up to 4x, minimizes aliasing.

HoRNet Valvola comes with a hardware-accelerated graphic interface. The interface is completely resizable and drawn using vectorial techniques, ensuring it looks sharp and perfect on every monitor size.

We also added “load” and “save” buttons. These allow you to quickly create your presets and reuse them in your projects.

Tube saturation made easy. Sounds absolutely great, the vst3 working flawlessly, stacking several instances in front of an IRloader (e.g. AnyAmpIR) is a tempting idea.

Tom says:

nice one, as always. it's for free so I technically can't complain but auto gain would be awesome.. maybe in a update..? cheers

max says:

hey that is nice

Isaak Moagi says:

Great sound and minimal aliasing. What I don't like are the volume changes when switching between the tubes and driving the gain. It would be preferable if either the volume is automatically compensated at the output or at least all models start at the same initial volume level for better comparability and workflow. Constantly having to account for the volume changes makes it difficult to compare the sound.

I love warm sounds. Hotnet plugins always PRO.

Juan says:

Como todos los plugins de HoRNet, sencillo, eficiente y buena calidad.

Matthew Jones says:

Put this on snares, or your snare bus. It's pretty amazing. Really brings the life out of them. I was shocked. Very cool plug-in, very easy to use and low, low, low on CPU. Just do it!

Georg Pilger says:

Absolutely great value for price plugins. Must have! And amazing professional quality!

Version 1.1.1 appears to be working perfectly with Reaper (just did a quick test). The VST3 is now equivalent to the VST2 version.

Arias says:

Ahora si la version VST3 funcionando perfecto y estable, en mi caso en Cakewalk by Bandlab

Nicholas Shaw says:

I've just tried 1.1.0. The new circuit emulation sounds great. The output gain is very welcome and fixed my main complaint about the earlier version. However, I think that the gain should be increased to at least an 24dB boost to compensate for any drop in amplitude that the plugin causes at extreme settings, so I can volume match accurately.

godsoe says:

Version 1.1.0 VST3 still not working in Tracktion Waveform. It's addition to any track results in silence. VST2 version is working.

Massimo Fasciano says:

Version 1.1.0 VST3 still not working correctly in Reaper.
Have to force bus to 2 channels in IO properties otherwise no audio if kept in normal auto mode.
Graphical animation (glow) not working.
The VST2 version has been perfect from the start.
Please test the VST3 with Reaper.

Yes, the twitter/facebook thing is a downer. Make sure you POST your like in order to get the free download to work.

Daniel Cairney says:

If you are in FL studio and have no sound click the " buggy plugins" switch located on the wrapper- should work. and it REALLY works! Sounds excellent, smooth tube distortion that works really well with guitars letting the chords ring through before the distortion ramps up. Thanks for the free gift and hope to see more great plugins.

KIMPOH TAN says:

VST2 works fine. VST3 does not pass audio using SoundBridge DAW.

Marius Lau says:

Reaper ver. 6 on a Mac with M1 works perfectly!

Poo Ping says:

This looks like a cool, straightforward plugin. Hopefully you'll let people without social media pick it up–I deleted my accounts almost 3 years ago and have no plans to ever return. Still, thanks for the great plugins and hope everyone has an awesome Xmas!!

Great Plugin!

Confirm VST2 working, VST3 silent in Cakewalk by BandLab.

Sounds like a nice enough little tubifier.

Massimo Fasciano says:

VST3 outputs silence in Reaper. VST2 works perfectly. Sounds really nice. Hoping for a quick fix.

Thank you and Merry Xmas
