Feature update for the LU Meter with auto gain staging
The HoRNet LUMeter MK2 is a digital loudness meter that offers auto gain staging and grouping functions. With its redesigned and resizable GUI, the meter now provides an intelligent tool to significantly enhance your gain staging and mixing workflow.
The LUMeter MK2 measures audio using Loudness Units, which are based on human sound perception. This method ensures you get accurate readings, as different frequencies at the same level reflect correctly on the meter. As a result, you can make better mixing decisions with greater confidence.
Moreover, HoRNet LUMeter MK2 offers momentary, short-term, and integrated loudness readings that follow the EBU R128 standard. It also applies the “auto gain” function to maintain the signal at the chosen LU level. This consistency helps keep your loudness even throughout the mix.
Additionally, you can perform auto gain and metering by following the EBU standard, which sums all channels into a single reading. Alternatively, you may choose to operate separately using a non-standard method for more customized control.
Since the meter measures loudness, single peaks may sometimes exceed 0 dBFS when you apply auto gain. To address this, we added a safety “peak protection.” When peaks rise above the set safety level, the plugin automatically adjusts the gain. This ensures that peaks stay within the maximum value you set, preventing distortion.
By default, the meter comes pre-calibrated to -18LUFS (Loudness Units Full Scale). However, you can easily adjust this reference to aim for higher or lower levels based on your specific needs. This flexibility allows you to accurately gauge the loudness of your master or individual tracks and enables quicker, more precise mixing decisions.
In addition to these features, HoRNet LUMeter MK2 includes our “auto gain” algorithm. This algorithm automatically adjusts the track’s gain to match your chosen level, saving you time while ensuring consistent and professional results.
