Updated DynamicsContro, our dynamics management tool.
We have just updated DynamicsControl, our powerful dynamics management tool, to the latest version. This update introduces several key improvements designed to enhance your workflow and refine your dynamic control over tracks, especially when working with complex mixes or demanding audio projects. Whether you’re mixing, mastering, or producing, HoRNet DynamicsControl offers an array of flexible options to help you maintain the perfect balance between loud and soft sections, ensuring a consistent and polished sound across your tracks.
HoRNet DynamicsControl gives you full control over your sound’s dynamic range. Dynamic range refers to the difference between the softest and loudest parts of a sound. For some tracks, a wide dynamic range is desirable, creating a sense of energy and movement. However, in many professional audio contexts, particularly in broadcasting or streaming, controlling dynamic range is essential to ensure that no part of the track is too quiet to hear or too loud to distort. DynamicsControl provides you with the flexibility to fine-tune the loudness of your tracks, making them more suited for various listening environments and ensuring they translate well across different audio systems.
The plugin features three distinct compressors—each with its own unique characteristics—designed to target different elements of your track’s dynamic range. These compressors work together seamlessly to offer precise control and create a smooth, consistent output. By combining them, you can address the loudest peaks, the softest lows, and everything in between, resulting in an overall more cohesive sound.
The first compressor, a regular compressor, is designed to limit the loudest parts of the signal. It uses a soft knee, ensuring a smooth, gradual compression response that prevents any harsh artifacts or sudden changes in the sound. This compressor is great for tracks with minor dynamic inconsistencies, providing subtle yet effective control over peaks.
The second compressor is based on the CompExp algorithm, an advanced technique that allows for precise gain adjustments. It works by “squeezing” the signal around the chosen threshold, making quieter parts of the track more present without causing distortion in the louder sections. This compressor is ideal for applications that require more dynamic control, such as vocals, where the goal is to balance softer and louder phrases in a consistent, controlled manner.
Finally, the third compressor is an upward compressor, a unique tool that amplifies the signal when it falls below the threshold, rather than reducing it. This feature is perfect for bringing up the quieter sections of a track that may otherwise be lost in the mix. The upward compressor adds clarity and presence to the lower-end dynamics, helping to ensure that nothing gets buried in the background. Together with the other two compressors, the upward compressor plays a crucial role in balancing both the peaks and the quieter sections, resulting in a more polished and cohesive mix.
With HoRNet DynamicsControl, you can easily control the attack and release times for all three compressors using dedicated controls. These adjustments allow you to fine-tune how quickly the compressor reacts to incoming audio and how smoothly it releases after applying compression. For example, a fast attack time might be useful for controlling sharp, sudden peaks, while a slower release time can help maintain a more natural flow and avoid any pumping effects.
The flexibility in attack and release times ensures that you can adapt the plugin to any type of material—whether you’re working with highly dynamic elements like drums, or more consistent sources like bass or vocals. The ability to adjust these settings allows for a more transparent and musical sound, preventing the compression from interfering with the natural feel of the track.
Additionally, we’ve integrated a saturation algorithm into DynamicsControl, which acts as a soft clipper to reduce peaks even further. This addition helps in keeping your tracks under control without causing any unwanted distortion or harsh clipping. The saturation effect adds a pleasing, harmonic warmth to the audio, making it more comfortable to listen to and providing that analog-style flavor to your dynamics control. This is particularly useful when you want to achieve a more warm, vintage-sounding track without resorting to extreme limiting.
To make it easier to monitor your changes, DynamicsControl features a classic meter and a graphical transfer function view. The meter allows you to quickly visualize gain changes, while the transfer function view provides a detailed graphical representation of how the plugin is affecting your signal over time. This visual feedback makes it easier to understand how the compressors are working, ensuring that you can achieve the precise results you’re aiming for. Whether you’re making subtle adjustments or performing more aggressive dynamic shaping, the visual elements of the plugin give you the clarity you need to stay in control.
One of the standout features of HoRNet DynamicsControl is its ability to automatically adapt its internal oversampling to match the host’s sample rate. Oversampling is an important process that helps reduce unwanted artifacts, like aliasing, that can arise when processing audio at lower sample rates. With DynamicsControl, you always get the best sound quality possible, whether you’re working with 44.1kHz, 96kHz, or higher sample rates.
Designed specifically with broadcasting in mind, DynamicsControl excels when placed on the master bus. It helps create a balanced, controlled final mix that meets industry standards for loudness, ensuring that your track translates well to broadcast and streaming platforms. Additionally, it’s an excellent tool for managing the dynamics of individual tracks, especially vocals. This makes it an indispensable tool for voiceover production, podcasting, and any other application where consistent, controlled dynamics are essential.
The new 1.0.1 version includes several important fixes to enhance your experience:
Fixed issues with saving and loading state in Wavelab: Users working in Wavelab will appreciate that DynamicsControl now saves and loads settings reliably, preventing any disruptions when reopening sessions.
Fixed issues with background rendering in Wavelab: Background rendering, often crucial for long sessions, now works without a hitch, allowing you to work efficiently even when rendering large projects.
This update brings critical improvements that enhance stability and functionality, ensuring a more seamless user experience, especially for users working with Wavelab or other DAWs that require high levels of precision in dynamics control. With this update, HoRNet DynamicsControl now delivers even more powerful, transparent, and reliable dynamic management, making it an essential tool for producers, engineers, and content creators who want to control the dynamics of their tracks without sacrificing sound quality.
