Nice compression and expansion
HoRNet CompExp is a compressor expander that draws inspiration from the design of a compander chip originally created for telephone lines and widely used in electronic devices to reduce noise.
The chip operates with a fixed threshold (internally set to -18dBFS in our case). When you set the “amount” knob to a value greater than 1, the gain increases by the specified factor if the signal is below the threshold, and decreases if it’s above. If you set the chip to function as an expander, the opposite occurs—the gain increases when above the threshold and decreases when below.
This design allows for dynamic compression on telephone lines, where the compressor and expander work together in this configuration. However, we discovered that these models sound interesting on their own.
We implemented the model of this chip in the HoRNet HDD1, where it effectively reduces noise in the delay feedback loop.
Internally, the gain compensates to ensure that the output consistently stays around -18dB RMS.
Demo
The demo is fully functional except for the fact that every now and then it will silence out, you cannot save parameter values with your session and the plugin will not respond to automation coming from the host.

Copy protection
The HoRNet CompExp has no copy protection, I don’t believe in copy protection, they are always cracked and they are annoying for the users, we all know you are not going to give away the plugin on the internet…
So simply download the plugin and enjoy your recordings!
10/10 right here. There aren't enough Companders on the market & this one is phenomenal. I would love to see this idea expanded on. I'd purchase a version of this with tweakable Ratio & Gain compensation, as well as a mix knob for parallel compression. This thing is so unique, I think a full fledged Compander based on this would be a great addition to the lineup.
Input trim would be great. Sometimes it acts too hot on default and needs input adjustment to no drive it to hard. Otherwise using it in parallel is usable.
